Kale Van Kahvalti Salonu (Susan)

Food
Taste - Everyone seems to be crazed with having a Van Kahvalti these days and while I’m no expert (only tried one other Van Kahvalti), Kale Van Kahvalti Salonu offers many delicious and interesting items. Van Kahvalti is refreshing change from standard Turkish breakfasts, though I cannot say that I love all of the regional items. One dish that I really liked is made with yogurt, honey and walnuts and another special dish is a mild and grainy peanut butter dish. The bread is very delicious and unique. The egg dishes are good at the first bite but too rich and oily by the end of the meal for my taste.
Presentation – Food is served on simple, small plates and not much care is given to appearance, but it is generally adequate.
Freshness – Adequate.
Variety – They offer a nice variety for a place, which is not offering open buffet. There are enough small items that you feel satisfied.
Price – 23 lira. Probably the perfect price for what you get.

Milieu
Physical place/Aesthetic - Not very nice. There are odd pictures on the wall and the décor looks faded.
Service – Adequate. Waiters are running around and do not have much time for you, but they do their job.
Crowd – More low-key than the crowd at upscale brunch places like Mabeyn and Lacivert.
Transportation - In Bakirkoy--very difficult to reach if you live on the Asian side. I’m not sure how to get there without a car.

UniquenessAs much as any Van Kahvalti is unique, this is unique. I can’t say that anything blew my mind, but I felt satisfied. If you want to try Van Kahvalti, start with this restaurant.
